As an instructor, my teaching philosophy rests on three core principles: (1) create an engaged student-centered classroom by using a multi-method teaching approach (2) impart the theoretical tools and real-world insights that allow students to better understand their own lives and the world around them (3) continuously build the communication, analytical and critical thinking skills of students. Taken together, these principles provide students with a new set of skills for navigating the world long after they have left my classroom. As someone who has benefited from academic pipeline programs like the A Better Chance Foundation and the McNair Scholars Program, I am especially interested and committed to increasing diversity in higher education through hands-on mentorship and advising.
